Think Tough Guys Are Scary? Wait Until You See What Weak Men Will Do…

You might think strong, tough-looking fighters are scary. Guys who do MMA, Kickboxing, or Krav Maga—sure, they can seem intimidating. But you know what's even scarier, in my opinion? Weak men. Yep, weak men. Sounds strange, doesn't it?

I was listening to Jordan Peterson the other day, and he explained something that really made me think. He said something like, "Why are you afraid of being weak? If you make yourself weak, life is very hard. If you make yourself weak and you suffer stupidly because of it, you will become bitter. And once you become bitter, you will become vengeful. And after vengeful, there is no limit."

That hit me pretty hard. Think of it like this: imagine a dog who's always scared. Even the smallest sound makes him jump. Eventually, that scared dog might bite someone—not because he's brave, but because he's terrified. Weakness, when it builds up, can make people mean or even cruel. Peterson mentioned historical examples, like the guards at Auschwitz or violent attackers in schools, and he asked: what made them that way? Well, weakness made them suffer stupidly, and that made them cruel. That was just the beginning.

Society Says "Be Weak"—That's Dangerous!

Today, society often tells men to be softer, harmless even. You're told that being harmless makes you good. But Peterson says that's wrong. He explains it clearly: "If you're harmless, you're just weak, and if you're weak, you're not going to be good. You can't be, because it takes strength to be good—it's very difficult to be good."

Why You Should Be Dangerous (But Not Violent!)

Now, here’s the good part. Jordan Peterson also says it's good to be dangerous—but not violent. Wait, what? Dangerous, but not violent? How does that work?

Well, he explained it really well. Being dangerous means being strong enough to protect yourself and others. He says, "those who have swords and know how to use them but keep them sheathed will inherit the world." You should be capable of defending yourself, but that doesn't mean you should use violence. If you're not strong, there's no morality in your self-control. Real virtue comes from having strength and deciding not to misuse it.

Training Helps (Trust Me, I've Been There)

For me, martial arts really helped with this. When I started training in Kickboxing and later Krav Maga, I felt stronger. And not just physically stronger, but mentally stronger too. I didn't become aggressive; actually, I got calmer. Knowing I could handle myself meant I didn't need to prove anything. It sounds weird, but for me, it really worked.

And the funny thing is, many of my friends who train in MMA or Kickboxing have noticed the same thing. They're the calmest, nicest people I know. They’re capable of fighting, sure, but they rarely ever have to.

Take the First Step—Seriously, Just Do It!

If you've ever thought about starting martial arts, my advice is simple: just go. Book that first class. Yes, it'll probably feel awkward, maybe even a bit scary—but that’s totally normal. Everyone feels that way at the beginning. The important thing is to take that first step.

After just a few sessions, you’ll start to feel the shift. More confidence. A calmer mind. Less fear in your body. Martial arts isn’t just about learning to fight—it’s about learning to carry yourself differently, with more control, more presence. And no, becoming stronger doesn’t make you meaner; in fact, it usually makes you kinder, more patient, and more secure.

Here on FightMore, you can find hundreds of different schools. Just browse and pick one that’s nearby and feels right for you. Whether you're looking for a competitive gym, a family-friendly dojo, or a peaceful place to build confidence and discipline, it’s all here.

So stop overthinking it. Just start. Your future self will thank you.
